Fact sheet · For IT and security teams

Fieldnoter processes meeting audio on the iPhone itself. There is no cloud to assess.

An employee wants to use Fieldnoter and sent you this page. Below is everything you need to evaluate it: what the app does, where data lives, what the network is used for, and how to verify each claim yourself.

What the app does

Fieldnoter is an iOS app that records or imports conversations and produces a transcript, speaker labels, a summary, and action items. All processing runs on the device: speech recognition uses on-device models (Parakeet and Whisper via Apple's Neural Engine), speaker separation and summaries run locally as well.

Data flows

Audio and transcripts Stored only on the device, protected by iOS file encryption. Never transmitted. Not part of the iCloud backup.
Account None. The app has no login, no user database, and no server side.
Network use Only for one-time model downloads (static files from a CDN) and App Store purchases. No conversation content is ever in any request.
Analytics and trackers None. App Store privacy label: Data Not Collected. No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Sharing and export Only when the user explicitly exports a transcript through the iOS share sheet. Optional: action items can be added to Apple Reminders, which follows the user's own iCloud settings.
Access control Optional Face ID or passcode lock on the app, on top of the device passcode.

GDPR position

Because no third party processes the conversation content, using Fieldnoter does not introduce a new data processor for that content. There is no server location to assess and no international transfer of recordings. Laws that reach data held by cloud providers, such as the US CLOUD Act, do not apply to content that never reaches a cloud provider. Note that recording conversations itself remains subject to your organization's own policies and applicable law.

Verify it yourself

1. Put an iPhone in airplane mode. Record a meeting. Fieldnoter transcribes and summarizes it fully, because nothing depends on a connection.

2. Route the device through your own proxy or MDM monitoring. The only traffic you will see is the one-time model download and standard App Store traffic.

3. Check the App Store privacy label: Data Not Collected.

Deployment

Fieldnoter is a free download on the App Store and can be distributed through MDM and Apple Business Manager. The full version is a one-time in-app purchase, with no subscription. For larger numbers we quote a price on request. Questions from your security review are welcome at the address below.
